Vietnam Airlines requires passengers with special needs to be inform it of their precise requirements and also provide the details of their problem which necessitates taking of special assistance from the airline.
For women with 32 weeks of pregnancy and without any complications, there is no need for a medical certificate.
For women with pregnancy from 32 weeks to under 36 weeks, the medical certificate is required and MEDIF I or MEDIF II forms are required to be filled. Medical certificate shall not be issued later than 7 days from the scheduled date of flight. It shall mention the nature of pregnancy (single/Multiple), whether there is any complication or not, estimated pregnancy week, date of delivery and that you are fit to fly.
After 36 weeks, expectant women are not allowed to fly on Vietnam Airlines.
The airline requires the pregnant women to consult their doctor before flying.
Infants are children below 2 years of age. Vietnam Airlines allows carriage of strollers as check-in baggage. It is only allowed till the boarding gate of the airplane.
Bassinets are provided for infants of upto 11 kg weight. The request for bassinets shall be made at least 24 hours before the flight departure time.
Child meals can also be requested at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time of flight.
Vietnam Airlines provides two types of services for children who are travelling alone.
For passengers of 2 to less than 6 years of age, both Unaccompanied Minor Service and Accompany Cabin Crew Service is mandatory.
For passengers of 6 to less than 12 years, only unaccompanied service is mandatory, the Accompany Cabin Crew Service is optional
For passengers of 12 to 18 years, both of these services are optional.
Unaccompanied Minor service charge is VND500,000 (domestic flights) or USD 50 (international flights)
Parents or legal guardians are required to provide full contact details of person who is expected to come at the airport for taking the child, and also of the person who is will leave the child with the airline (including themselves). Full identification details of the minor child is also to be provided.
Accompany Cabin Crew service shall be asked for at least 3 days before from scheduled departure date of airline in case of domestic flights and at least 5 days before from the scheduled departure time of airline in case of international flight.
The person expected to arrive at the airport for taking the child shall be present at the airport at least 30 minutes before the scheduled arrival time of the airline.
Mobility Aid services from Vietnam Airlines shall be requested at least 24 hours before the departure of international flights (48 hours in case of flights to/from USA) or 8 hours in case of Vietnam domestic flights.
Vietnam Airlines needs to be informed about the manual and battery operated wheelchairs. For the former, information on whether these are collapsible or not, their size and weight needs to be mentioned. For the latter, the type of battery and its wattage also needs to be mentioned.
Except in flights to/from USA where the dogs are allowed in Cabin, the dogs are taken in as a check-in baggage in all other flights. However, in case of service animals accompanying a blind passenger or an emotional support animal, the dog is allowed to be carried on-board.
If any passenger needs stretcher, the same shall be communicated to the airline at least 72 hours before the travel time. Free baggage allowance is 6 times of normal and the charge of this service is 6 times the normal adult fare plus surcharges.
