Air New Zealand Check-In and Boarding

Check-in on the Air New Zealand flights can be done using the web, mobile application or at the airport counter. Let us first understand what are the valid ID proofs for checking in on Air New Zealand.

Air New Zealand Online Check-in Cut-off Times

  • Opens 24 hours before scheduled departure of flights.

  • Closes 30 minutes before scheduled departure of flight in case of domestic flight and 90 minutes in case of international flight (for flights to/from USA, it is 120 minutes)

Travelling with bags and drop-box closing times

If you are not having the check-in bags,then you have to proceed for security clearance straightaway and shall be at gate 20 minutes before the scheduled departure time of the flight.

If you are having the check-in bags, then you must drop the baggage at the designated space 30 minutes before scheduled departure of flights in case of domestic flights, and 60 minutes in case of international flights (75 minutes before if departing from LHR, Sydney and All US/Canadian airport)

Domestic flights of Air New Zealand

Check-in can be done using the online medium or at the airport counter. When you use either the website or the mobile application of the website, you get an electronic boarding pass on the mobile device. This electronic boarding pass can be used at the domestic airports to scan at the gate.

Please note that the barcodes and printed e-ticket receipts or the e-pass tags are no longer accepted at the domestic boarding gate.

An alternative to electronic boarding pass is to get the printed boarding pass at kiosks.

International Flights of Air New Zealand

On international flights, the check-in can be done online using the website of the airline or its mobile application or at the airport (kiosks or counter).

Certain domestic and international airports served by Air New Zealand have kiosks. These are: Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown, Wellington, Brisbane, London Heathrow, Sydney, Melbourne, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Tokyo Narita, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Fiji Nadi.

Who can not check in online?

Certain passengers are not eligible for online check-in. Some others who are eligible are still required to collect their boarding passes from the check-in counter at the airport. These passengers are:

  1. Passengers with infants

  2. Unaccompanied minors

  3. Passengers requiring special assistance

  4. Passengers who are required to meet Entry/transit requirements are per the law.

  5. Passport verification purposes (international passengers)

How to do online check-in?

You are required to have your booking reference number, passport details (for international passengers) and frequent flyer membership number.

  • Select passengers in booking who have to check-in

  • Upgrade, if you wish

  • Manage check-in baggage

  • Self-allocate seats

  • Make payments for any special service request, pre-paid bags, extra bags, etc

  • Passport details

  • Other Entry or Transit information as asked.
