Qantas Check-In and Boarding

There are different ways in which passengers can check in on their Qantas flight for the sake convenience. There is the usual airport check in facility at its counters. At the same time, it also provides check-in through online and mobile methods.

Exclusively for Qantas flights within Australia, there are two ways in which the check in can be done. This is by way of Auto Check-in  and Mobile Check-in.

If you have booked tickets on Qantas.com or using its mobile app, you can check in through these media. However, if you have not done so, it will notify about the same by sending you SMS before flight. Thus, it is important to have the correct mobile number in Manage Your Booking and Frequent Flyer profile. On confirmation of check in , the boarding pass is sent on your mobile device which can be scanned at the self-service kiosk at airport for getting bag tags or printing the boarding pass. Seat selection is also possible using this method. However, there are certain destinations within the domestic network of Qantas where Auto Check in facility is not provided. These are flights from Learmonth, Horn Island, Cloncurry, Biloela, Blackall, Lord Howe Island, Hamilton Island, Charleville, Miles, Olympic Dam, Moree and Barcaldine. Flights to/from Karratha and Broome are also not provided this facility.

Mobile Check in for domestic flights of Qantas is permitted when qantas.com is accessed using mobiles. This can be done beginning 24 hrs and up to 30 minutes before flight departure time. If returning on same check, check in can be done for return flight as well. The boarding pass can be added to passbook on an iPhone. If carrying a check in luggage, you need to drop the bag at drop-box at least 60 minutes before flight departure time.

Online check in facility for international flights is open from 24 hrs until 2 hrs before departure of flight. You need to take the print of boarding pass at the airport.

Eligibility for online or mobile check in

Please note that mobile check in facility is available only when first flight is operated by Qantas or QantasLink Australian domestic and  there are no connecting flights or the connecting flights are provided by Qantas or QantasLink Australian on domestic routes. Mobile check in is not provided on any international flights, JetStar flights, connecting flights with other carriers, oneworld or codeshare partners or any other.

On the contrary, online check in facility is available for all flights except in following three cases:

• First flight of Qantas or QantasLink Australia domestic and next one operated by JetStar Australia domestic or JetStar NZ domestic

• When first flight is operated by JetStar, oneworld partners or other codeshare partners.
