Pregnant Women

If the expectant woman has not reached 28 weeks of pregnancy, then there is no need for any medical certificate. However, if a woman of uncomplicated pregnancy and bearing single or multiple pregnancies are in the last 12-4 weeks or last 12-8 weeks prior to confinement respectively, then a MEDIF form needs to be filled in. This form shall not be older than 10 days of scheduled flight departure time.

The pregnant women having single uncomplicated pregnancy is not allowed to fly when she has reached 36 weeks of pregnancy.

Similarly, pregnant women having multiple uncomplicated pregnancies are not allowed to fly when they have reached 32 weeks of pregnancy.

Disability Assistance and Wheelchairs

People with disabilities are provided with special assistance by EVA Air. The airline provides transportation assistance to and from the gates, at the airport and in the cabin.

If you are disabled, the airline requires you to inform it as soon as possible so that proper arrangements can be made for enplaning and deplaning.  There is wheelchair assistance at the airport, as also the aerobridges and other lifting machinery which can make the task of enplaning and deplaning quite easy.

For wheelchair assistance, the airline needs to be informed at least 24 hours before scheduled departure of flight.

While bringing your own wheelchair, it is important to provide advance information about the size, whether foldable or not, number of installed batteries and type of batteries. 

Spillable or Non-spillable Wet and Dry Batteries

Where a battery can not be removed from the wheelchair, it is important to ensure that it is protected from short circuit, is securely attached to wheelchair.

Where a battery can be removed from wheelchair, the wheelchair may then be carried as a check-in baggage.

Lithium Ion Batteries

The Lithium battery powered wheelchairs shall meet the criteria and guidelines of UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, subsection 38.3. The terminals shall be protected to avoid short circuit.  Electrical circuits shall be isolated as well. For those batteries which can be removed, the single battery shall not be more than 300WH and where two batteries are used, each shall not be more than 160WH. In addition to removed batteries, max one spare battery up to 300WH or 2 batteries of 160WH each are required.

Service Dogs

These are allowed on-board for free but there is a requirement of physician certificate that this dog is required for disabled passenger in order to help in performing certain tasks.

EVA Air does not accept any other animal except dog as service animal.

EVA Air also allows an emotional support dog to accompany the passenger. However, a letter on letterhead of doctors is required and it shall state that the passengers has a mental or emotional disorder as defined in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) IV.

Unaccompanied Minors

Children in age group of 5 to 12 years are allowed to travel on EVA Air. The parents and guardians are required to inform the airline that they are booking tickets for an unaccompanied minor.

There is further a requirement of filling the UM form and provide the contact details of local contacts at departure and arrival airports. If the stopover or transfer flight connection is of more than 4 hours duration, then parents or guardians must make suitable arrangements at intermediary airport by asking local contact to take the child and bring back at the time before resuming onward journey. In business class, EVA Air allows to bring only 1 unaccompanied child of age 8 to 12 years.

i have made a reservation from KL to Taipei and Taipei to San Francisco. My mother would require special assistance due to old age. How can i request for it? Thank you

You can ask it from the airline reservation office or even from its call center. Just to make aure that this service ia provided for all sectors, please notify all the airlines involved.
