KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Special Assistance

KLM operates a special helpline- KLM Cares- for passengers who need special assistance. It is suggested to contact the airline at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure time of flight for any special need that you might have during the flight.

Disabled Passengers

Assistance is provided at the airports and during the flight for the people who are not able to move totally or partially.

KLM allows passengers to bring their own wheelchairs.

The size of wheelchairs allowed is 152 x 139 x 149 cm on its fleet of Boeing 777, 747, 787 and Airbus 330, and, on Boeing 737, the size allowed is 112 x 113 x 85 cm. For smaller airplanes Embraer 175, 190 & Fokker 70, the size of wheelchair shall be 120 x 100 x 70 cm with max weight of 150 kg.

Pregnant Women

Women of more than 36 weeks pregnancy are not allowed to fly on KLM. In case of multiple pregnancy or complications, expectant mothers are required to fly on consultation of their physician. It is good to carry a Fit to Fly certificate from the doctor.

Unaccompanied Minor

KLM provides UM service for children of 5 years and up to 14 years of age. This is a mandatory service to have if the children of this age group are to fly with the airline. The service can also be availed by children in age group of 15 to 17 years, though it is not a compulsory service for them. This service shall be booked no later than 24 hours before the scheduled departure time of flight.

Under this service the parent or guardian accompanying the child to the airport is required to fill out a form wherein he is required to mention self contact details and also that of the person who is expected to come at arrival airport for taking the child. The person to whom the child is to be handed over at the arrival airport is required to provide suitable verification proof.

Also, the child is always accompanied by KLM staffer at airports and in seated at a place where cabin crew can directly watch the child.

Please note that KLM transfers the child on two other airlines-  AIR FRANCE and Delta Air Lines flights.

I am a partially disabled person and I usually travel with air france as they allow me to take my wheel chair and and an extra bag for my medical equipments free of charge.Is it the same with KLM ?. I will be flying from manchester airport to beirut with kLM and the return is with Air France. Hope I get a positive answer. Thanks and regatds. Walid honeini

Yes, wheelchair and medical equipments will be allowed. Just inform the airline in advance, preferably 48 hrs before flight. For different planes which the airline operates, the size of wheelchair allowed is-

  • Airbus A330s: maximum 152 x 139 x 149 cm, no maximum weight
  • Boeing 737s: maximum 112 x 113 x 85 cm, no maximum weight
  • Boeing 777s and 787s: maximum 152 x 139 x 149 cm, no maximum weight
  • Embraer 175s, 190s, and 195-E2s: maximum 120 x 100 x 80 cm and maximum 149 kg

For manual or electric wheelchairs, please come 3 hrs before the European flight and 4 hrs before intercontinental flight.
