Check-in Baggage Allowance

The new policy of free allowance of check-in baggage is based on piece-system, as a departure from the weight-system for some of the routes earlier. Besides this general policy which is given in the chart below, there are certain specific exceptions. The allowances for those exceptions are also provide in the content after the general allowance chart.

Exceptions for Economy Class Passengers-

Children above 2 years of age are allowed the same allowance as that of adults +1 collapsible stroller/pushchair and a carseat.

Infants are allowed special allowance of 1pcs of 15 kg but they are not entitled to regular allowance. Both children and infants are also allowed to carry a collapsible stroller or a push car or a car seat. Infants can also bring one cabin bag of upto 3 kg weight and 44 x 35 x 20 cm dimensions.

University Students are allowed 1 extra check in bag of up to 23 kg weight. To avail it, they have to present acceptance letter or valid student visa at airport.

Addiitonal Allowances for Falconflyer Members

However, if the passengers are also its frequent flyer program members, then they are entitled to additional allowances.

Falcon Black members - 1 extra bag of up to 32 kg
Falcon Gold members- 1 extra bag of up to 23 kg
Falcon Silver members- 1 extra bag of up to 15 kg

Each bag shall not weigh more than 32 kg and its length, breadth and height shall not be more than 95, 75 and 45 cms respectively.

Codeshare flights

On the codeshare flights, the airline has a very clear policy. If Gulf Air is the first carrier and the connecting flight bears the flight number of Gulf Air but is operated by another carrier, then the allowance rules of Gulf Air will apply. However, if the first carrier is that other carrier and the connecting flight is provided by Gulf Air, then the rules of that first operating carrier will apply.

Cabin or Hand luggage

Gulf Air provides free carry-on baggage allowance as well as given in table below:

45 by 40 by 30 cm	55 by 40 by 30cm

Falcon Gold members are allowed to carry either one bag of maximum dimensions 55, 40, 30 cms or one garment bag and one briefcase. Garment carrier shall be of up to 20 cms width and briefcase of 45, 40 , 30 cms. Total weight of baggage shall not be more than 9 kgs per passenger.

Economy class members are allowed to carry one bag of 45, 40, 30 cms. Total weight shall not be more than 6 kgs.

Infants are allowed cabin baggage allowance as well. For them, passengers can carry one bag of 44, 35 and 20 cms. Total weight shall not exceed 3 kgs.

Special Rules of Baggage Allowance on codeshare flights to/from USA and Canada

If codeshare is operated by American Airlines

Falcon Gold cabin class members are allowed to carry 2 checked in luggage pieces with each weighing not more than 32 kgs and dimensions 158 cms.

Economy class passengers are allowed to carry 2 pieces of total linear dimensions for both bags not more than 273 cms and weight not more than 23 kgs each. If bags weigh more than 23 kg but less than 32 kg, fixed charge per bag of USD 50 will have to be paid.

Infants are also entitled to free checked in luggage allowance and they are entitled to 1 bag of total linear dimensions 158 cms and weight up to 23 kg.

2. If ticket is issued by Gulf Air but flight is operated by another airline to/from USA/Canada

The baggage policy of that carrier would apply.

3. If ticket is issued by Gulf Air but flight is operated by another carrier excluding USA/Canada

Baggage allowance of that carrier will apply in their leg of journey, irrespective of where you began the journey.

Special Baggage

LED Tv up to 50 inches screen size are allowed to be carried in check-in baggage. Larger sizes shall be carried in cargo. However, this LED TV in check-in baggage is considered as an additional baggage and is charged for.
Zamzam water of max 5 kg weight can be carried in addition to free check in baggage allowance for free. Secure packaging shall be done by the company authorized to do it at airport.
Musical instruments are to be carried in check in baggage only
You are allowed to bring cardboard cartons of specific size, 51cms (20ins) x Height 31cms (12ins) x Width 76cms (30ins) but weight of each shall not be more than your allowance weight.

Hi I want to ask like I am travelling from Delhi to Bahrain (2 hours layover) and then to Tbilisi, Georgia. I booked the economy class and it showed of 2 pieces ,so I can take 32 kg of each and one hand bag of 6 kg right. I am on student visa.

You are saying there is no automatic provision to increase the capacity by 9 kgs?! Please check the website before you give advice. https://www.gulfair.com/en/help/baggage/baggage-information They wrote and I quote " Students traveling in Economy Class to or from any other destination (excluding Bahrain) within our network are eligible for a complimentary 9 kgs additional weight per piece to their ticketed check-in baggage allowance. If your ticket allows 1 Piece the total weight should not exceed 32 kgs." This is what their customer service told me too.

Permit us to clarify. In our previous response, we wanted to know whether there is a stopover in Bahrain or not, which you have not replied to. If there is a stopover in bahrain and it is less than 24 hrs, then there is a no extra baggage allowance irrespective of whether the origin and destinations are in network of airline.

IF there is no stopver in Bahrain, then we have to check whether the origin and destination are within the network of the airlines. So, just being in the network does not entitle you to free extra allowance because if there is a stopover in bahrain and it is for less than 24 hrs then extra baggage allowance will not be provided.

Hey, hope you are having a good day. I just saw your comment that for cabin bag the total should be 115cm. But when I spoke to their customer service, they told me that each dimensions should be within the limit.. not the total. Can you please confirm? Thanks

Many times people do not mention the exact size of their baggage and sometimes there is a confusion in (dimensions) height and length. Therefore, we do ask them to consider sum of dimensions. However, individual dimensions are also important.

Hey, I'm flying with gulf air this October. I understand the luggage weight limits are 2 of 32kgs (as I'm a student and flying to germany) and cabin bag of 7 or 8 kgs. My question is, my cabin bag has two dimensions under the dimension limit and one is around 49-50cm instead of 45cm. So will it be okay to carry as a cabin bag? Thank you

Sum of dimensions shall be 115cm. There is no automatic provision to increase student baggage allowance by 9 kg in each bag. Do you have stop over in Bahrain or not while flying in economy class? If yes, then for how many hours? If there is no stopover in Bahrain, then you have to check whether the origin and destination are within the Gulf Air network or not.

You will have to check the battery. This shall be ideally taken in cabin since Lithium Ion battery is placed in it. The size and weight has to be as per the given allowance limits.

I'll be traveling from Manila to London. I just need a clarification regarding baggage allowance. My eticket states that 2piece plan for checked in baggage but below it indicates there is bag 1, bag 2, bag 3, and bag 4 and says NO FEE up to 32kgs each bag. So does it mean my checked in luggage allowance is a total of 128kgs or it should only be 64kgs that can be split up into 4 lugggaes? Also, is a foldable size of umbrella allowed in carryon or check in luggage?

Hello! I am a student travelling from Delhi to Amsterdam and i had booked gulf air airline. I have a layover of 16hrs in bahrain. The flight from delhi to Bahrain was operated by gulf air but one from Bahrain to Amsterdam was gulf air operated by KLM airline. My question is, i have overweight luggage of 6 kgs, am i allowed to carry additional luggage as a student or do i have to buy one.

Layover has to be of more than 24 hrs to avail extra baggage allowance. Otherwise you have to pay for it.

My journey from Hyderabad to Bahrain by gulf airways then 17hours layover in Bahrain and then Bahrain to Heathrow London by gulf airways again. So am I eligible to carry 1 free 23kgs baggage? I'm a new student, so i have no university ID card. Can i show the offer letter or CAS letter or student visa from university in airport? You can bring 1 additional piece of baggage of 23 kg if you are having a stopover in Bahrain for more than 24 hrs. Another important point to note that this special allowance is applicable only when you are flying to/from the country where your University is. Just being a University student does not entitle you to have free allowance for traveling to any destination.

I need to understand the concept of extra baggage. Is it decided by the no.of bags or by the weight of the total luggage. Example- I am travelling with my spouse. I am allowed (per person) to carry 46+7kgs worth luggage (cabin + checkin) which is applicable same to my spouse. So a total of 106kgs is allowed. My question is will I be charged for extra luggage if it exceeds more than 106 kgs as we are carrying 10 bags all put togeather.

Generqlly, For Americas piece system applies and for other routes weight system of baggage applies. If each of you can take 2 bags of 23 kg each in check in, then do not consider it in clubbed manner. Number of bags per person and weight of each bag shall be observed. If you take weight more than 23 kg in any bag or exceed number of pcs, then it becomes chargeable.

If I pay online for the extra baggage to GULF AIR, will it reach JFK (NewYork) or will get Stopped at PARIS (CDG) as the Gulf Air Flight is till the Paris, so the American Express taking the charge from there after ? 3. USD 200 is the charge for the third bag for American Airlines. Gulf Air would charge USD 130 for extra bag. Whether the bag will get stopped at Paris or not will be told by Gulf Air.

I'm a student travelling through gulf air frm delhi to bahrain, and bahrain to paris and paris to chicago, through the same airlines bt another flight, along with the provided two bags of 23kg,can i be allowed another baggage to check in as mentioned in the gulf air website. And would i be allowed with the extra bag if i show my visa in the delhi airport where i check in my luggage.

Being a student, you have to meet the terms and conditions of the airline in order to avail the extra check in baggage allowance. These are given in https://www.gulfair.com/en/help/baggage/baggage-information

One of the conditions to avail 1 extra bag of 23 kg is that you stay in bahrain stop for more than 24 hrs. If are staying for less, then max 9 kg in each bag would be allowed.

We suggest you check this with the airline customer support as well.

If you have to take a weight more than check in baggage allowance of 2 bags of 23 kg each, then $130 is paid for weight more than 23 kg and less than 32 kg. This is the pre-purchase rate when bought online at least 25 hrs before travel time. At airport, the rates are higher.

This will depend on whether there are two separate tickets and whether Gulf Air has any partnership with Air Canada or not. Gulf Air has allowance of 2 bags of 23 kg for its flights in economy class from Delhi to London.

Air Canada provides 2 bags of 23 kg each under Economy Latitude fare class. So, if you have bought Economy Latitude, then there is no issue.

However, for economy Standard and Flex fares, the allowance is 1 bag of 23 kg each only, which means that you might have to pay excess baggage charges for it if the airline is not having an agreement or policy to accept the baggage allowance of Gulf Air.

You will have to pay for both overweight bags. It is better to have excess weight in only 1 bag provided it remais below 32 kg, so that you pay for only one overweight bag. Please also be mindful of the size limits. Exceeding size limits will also be chargeable.

If baggage weight is more than 23 kg but less than 32 kg, overweight baggage charge for that bag has to be paid. USD 50 is to be paid for excess bag weight if it is operated by American Airlines. If any other airline is involved, you will have to check its excess baggage charges.

I am traveling from Manchester to Bangkok, transit at Bahrain. Economy light. Weight limit is 23 kg. Is Gulf Air strict with the luggage weight? Will I be charged if my luggage is slightly overweight (like 23.1 kg)? And how will they calculate the fee for excess weight? It is $200 per kg or $200 no matter how many kg over?

LED TV of 50 inches is allowed with charges, in addition to the check-in baggage allowance. Yours will be counted towards the excess baggage based on extra piece of up to 23 kg. Charge will be $130/140 depending on whether you are paying online before the scheduled departure time of flight or at the airport.

Hello, I am a student from Philippines flying to US and I will have my stopover in Bahrain. My question is that aside from my 2 existing baggage (23kg each), am I still eligible for another free 23 kg baggage allowance? If yes, can I just use it instead to add to my other two baggages but will not exceed 32kg each luggage? so I don’t have to have 3 luggages in total? Is that possible?

Yes, as per the terms of the airline published on their website, if you are flying economy and are stopping in Bahrain, you have an additional 23 kg allowance. Since it is an allowance system based on piece-system, you shall be able to carry it in a separate piece of bag only, not to be divided among the existing two bags. So, it is better to take the third one to avoid hassles at airport.

Hi.. I am a student travelling from my home country (Kochi) to University country (London) in Economy Light. Am I eligible for the student offer provided by the Gulf air, that is upto 23kg extra baggage? Or is this offer applicable for only Economy gold?

We are assuming that Kochi is on the networks of Gulf air. If you are flying economy class from Kochi, and are stopping in Bahrain, then you are eligible for 1 additional free check in bag of 23 kg.

Otherwise, if you are neither flying from Bahrain nor stopping there but are flying from one of its network stations, then you are eligible for 9 kg extra weight in existing check-in bag subject to the condition that these shall not be more than 2 check in bags and each bag shall not have more than 32 kg weight.

The only requirement is that the check-in bag shall be either the regular check-in baggage which passenger normally carry, or if it any other thing, then it shall have flat surfaces. Irregular shapes of bag pose problems in security screening and also in carriage. We are not very sure about what type of soft bag you are carrying.

I am planning to travel from London to Mumbai and return back Mumbai to London, via Bahrain, by Economy class fare in January 2013. I understand that 2 items of 23kg each are allowed as a Checked Baggage allowance. As I intend to take Golf Clubs, with me for which the protective bag will be bigger in size, will that be accepted as one of the Checked item of my allowance, or do I have to pay additional charges for that ? Hello I’m a student , I have booked my flight from Bangalore to Berlin via gulf air , so from Bangalore to Bahrain and to Istanbul it’s given gulf airlines and from Istanbul to Berlin if has gulf air flight number but it’s given Turkish airlines , do I have to change the load the luggages again in Istanbul or directly at Berlin ? And since I’m a student can I carry extra 23kg bag other than the free baggage provided ? ( 23 kgs of 2 bags ) Your answer would be helpful !

You must check with the Gulf Air whether it will provide 'through check in' right up to Istanbul so that you do not have to collect and then re-checkin baggage. Secondly, University students are allowed additional free check-in bag of up to 23 kg but only on Gulf Air operated flights. So, you might have to pay charges for excess baggage when the airline changes to Turkish.

Hello sir, i have question,i have 46 baggage with 2 pcs. can i use 2 cardbox? or 1 card box & 1 regular suitcase for Riyadh to lahore . please giude.

If you have to bring cardboard box as check in baggage, then only single carton box can be brought and it is the only check in bag you would be able to carry. Our suggestion will be to carry only check in bags, not carton.

Can I carry additional check in one piece of 30 kg , With free check in baggage allowance in gulf air airlines flight from Jeddah to Bangalore.

my flight from phjilippines-bahrain- uae on econimy i want to know how much baggage can i bring in my ticket only 1 pc is allowed but what i have read here i can bring 2pcs of 23kgs each
