IndiGo gives help to passengers who have a disability or limited mobility, to expectant mothers and to children flying without a parent. This page covers those three groups. Prices are in rupees unless a currency is shown. For anything else, such as a medical condition, call IndiGo on 0124-6173838.
How to ask for assistance
- Notify IndiGo two days ahead: ask when you reserve by phone, or call once an online booking is made.
- Staff may ask a few questions to find out how much help you need.
- Help is given first come, first served, as wheelchairs on each flight are limited.
- Passengers who are not medically well enough to fly without checks should return IndiGo's medical form three days in advance.
Wheelchairs
- The wheelchair service costs nothing. A chair carries you to the gate after check-in, between connecting flights and then onward from the plane to arrivals; where the airport allows it, staff also take you down the aisle to your seat.
- No attendant is assigned to you. Tell the counter at check-in if you will want a washroom stop or a meal before you board.
- Staff can help you move between the wheelchair and your seat. Crew will stow hand luggage, open meal packs and give a personal safety briefing, but cannot help with eating, medication or the lavatory. Bring a companion as safety assistant when you need such care.
- At busy times help can be slow. Allow extra time for a connection, because IndiGo accepts no blame when slow assistance causes a missed flight.
- Groups of 10 or more wheelchair users must phone 0124-6173838 two days beforehand. IndiGo decides how many can board, depending on seats for the group and any safety assistants.
Your own wheelchair or mobility aid
- You may use your own manual chair as far as the cabin door or boarding stairs. It is then loaded into the cargo hold, and you move to an IndiGo chair. At the destination it is returned as near the door as it can be; failing that, an airport chair takes you to baggage reclaim.
- If you check in your chair, staff help to take it apart and put it together, with you watching. The airline accepts no blame for damage during handling, and payment for lost or broken items cannot exceed the baggage ceilings in its Conditions of Carriage. Insurance is advised.
- Crutches, braces and artificial limbs may be used as far as the plane and brought aboard if you rely on them.
- ATR aircraft cannot carry battery-driven wheelchairs or other bulky equipment.
Electric wheelchairs
Wet-cell (spillable)
- Accepted?
- No
- Rules
- Corrosive acid makes it a dangerous good, so IndiGo refuses these chairs.
Lithium or non-spillable
- Accepted?
- As checked baggage only
- Rules
- The chair is taken apart at the counter. Insulate the battery terminals against shorting. Carry the maker's manual.
Lithium battery fitted in the chair
- Accepted?
- Yes
- Rules
- May stay fitted, with no Wh limit while installed.
Lithium battery taken out of the chair
- Accepted?
- Yes
- Rules
- Each battery 300 Wh or less. One spare of 300 Wh or less is allowed, or two spares of 160 Wh or less.
Blindness, deafness and other disabilities
- Travellers with impaired sight, hearing or speech should say two days beforehand what support they need. Early check-in is advised. On request you can board before others with a staff member's help. Certain airports make no announcements, but flight screens are available and staff will help.
- Safety cards in Braille are carried on every aircraft. Crew will read out the snack menu and help place and open the pack, but will not feed anyone.
- Emergency-exit rows are never given to those with impaired senses, or to anyone whose mobility problem could block an exit or slow an evacuation.
- Guide dogs travel on all aircraft except ATRs. Reserve by phone (0124-6173838) two days in advance; only one guide dog is allowed per aircraft. The owner takes a window seat in row one and the dog stays on the floor on an absorbent mat. It must be trained, vaccinated, harnessed and muzzled, and you must carry proof of its training and vaccination. A dog may be refused or removed if it cannot be controlled.
- Passengers living with autism, intellectual disability, dementia, Alzheimer's or Down syndrome should book and inform IndiGo two days ahead. Help is available from the airport entrance to the seat, and they board early to settle in. Give the collector's name when you check in.
- A safety assistant means a fit adult who helps you leave the aircraft in an emergency and relays the crew's safety messages. You need one if you cannot fasten your seat belt, wear a life jacket, reach an exit or wear an oxygen mask unaided, if you are severely mobility-impaired, or if you do not understand safety instructions. The assistant sits next to you, and IndiGo can sell a ticket to the assistant at the same fare you paid.
Pregnancy
Single pregnancy with no complications
- Latest week to fly
- Until the end of week 36
- Doctor's certificate
- Your obstetrician's original Fit to Fly letter, issued within the 7 days before travel. The airline's carriage terms require it from week 33 to week 36; its Expectant Mother page says from week 32.
Twins, triplets or more, no complications
- Latest week to fly
- Until the end of week 32
- Doctor's certificate
- Certificate dated within 3 days of travel, for weeks 28 to 32
Complicated pregnancy
- Latest week to fly
- Not beyond week 32
- Doctor's certificate
- Certificate dated within 3 days of travel, for weeks 28 to 32. Without it you cannot fly in this period.
- IndiGo's doctor may speak with your own, or read your medical papers, and the airline's chief medical officer makes the final decision.
- You must give true details about your pregnancy.
- On an oversold flight, expectant mothers are among those the airline tries to keep on board.
Children travelling alone (Flying Solo)
- Under 5
- Flying Solo is not offered. The child must go with someone aged 18 or over.
- 5 to 12
- Booking Flying Solo is possible, and the child may not go alone otherwise.
- 13 to 18
- May travel alone, or use Flying Solo if the family wants.
Fee
- Domestic
- INR 5,999
- International
- INR 12,999 (USD 150)
Booking through the call centre costs extra. IndiGo's fees page lists the fee in other currencies. IndiGo accepts children in this service at its own discretion.
At the airport
- Be there 2 hours ahead on domestic trips and 4 hours ahead on international ones.
- The child's mother, father or guardian fills in a signed form at the check-in point. It gives the name and phone numbers of the adult (18 or older) who will collect the child. Photo ID is needed for the child and for the adult who drops them off.
- An airline employee escorts the child to the plane and hands them to the flight attendants. The parent has to stay in the terminal until take-off.
- These children cannot use web check-in.
On board and on arrival
- Crew look after the child and serve a free snack and soft drink. Pack medicines, warm clothes and a favourite toy or game in the cabin bag, and tell IndiGo about any allergy through the call centre.
- The nominated adult should be waiting at arrivals half an hour before landing. Staff hand the child over only after checking that person's original photo ID.
- If the child changes aircraft, the wait at the connecting airport must be under 6 hours, with no overnight stay, and every flight must be IndiGo's. Otherwise an adult must travel with the child.

Dear Sir, please note that we are not the airline, nor associated with it.
Secondly, we do not think that Indigo Airlines will allowed electronic wheelchair operated with lithium battery beyond the check-in counter. So, you might not be able to bring your own chair. However, the airline can provide you its own manually operated wheelchair till cabin gate.
Please check with the airline customer support for any other documentary or other requirement.
