This page summarises what IndiGo says it will pay if something goes wrong on board or with your baggage. The limits come from its Conditions of Carriage and from Indian law (the Carriage by Air Act, 1972). A "special drawing right" (SDR) is an accounting unit set by the International Monetary Fund, whose rupee value moves daily.

When IndiGo bears no liability
- Death or injury: IndiGo can be freed, in whole or part, if the passenger's own carelessness (or another person's) caused or added to the harm. It also excludes illness, injury, disability or death that comes from the passenger's own physical condition or from an outbreak of illness of any kind.
- Baggage: no liability where the loss came from a defect in the bag itself, the passenger's fault, or if IndiGo proves it took every reasonable step or could not have done so.
- Delay: IndiGo is excused if it shows that it and its staff took all reasonable measures, or that no measure was possible.
- Where IndiGo carries a passenger of another airline after a disruption, it answers for its own flight only.
Baggage the airline will not cover
- Precious, breakable or perishable items packed in checked luggage. The list includes cash, jewellery, silverware, glassware, medicines, food, phones, cameras, laptops and other electronics, software, video gear, share certificates, bonds, negotiable papers, samples, personal and business documents, artwork, antiques, research material, irreplaceable books, and passports. Carry these in the cabin.
- Normal wear and tear, such as broken wheels or bases, lost external locks or straps, damage to protruding parts, harm from over-packing, damaged pull-out handles, scratches, torn zips, straps or handles, scuffs, dents, dirt and manufacturing faults.
- Hand baggage: whatever you carry on board is entirely your own responsibility.
- Loss caused by customs inspection, or by obeying a law.
- Harm your own bag does to other people or to property, IndiGo's included, is yours to answer for.
- IndiGo keeps bags safe from check-in until they reach the arrival conveyor belt.
Claim deadlines
- Damaged or missing items
- Report before you walk out of the terminal. Taking the bag without complaint is treated as proof that it was handed over in good order.
- Delayed checked baggage
- Notify IndiGo within 21 days of the bag being made available to you
- Entitlement to compensation
- Lost unless a case is brought within 2 years of arrival, or of the date the flight should have arrived
- Compare the tag on your bag with your own baggage tag before leaving the belt. If you take the wrong bag, IndiGo will try to recover it under the law.
- If a passenger's bag is lost because another customer or a third party took it, IndiGo bears no liability.
Other points
- These conditions also protect IndiGo's agents, staff and representatives. Travel agents sit within the same limits.
- If a seat is downgraded against your will, IndiGo reimburses you under the DGCA rules (CAR Section 3, Series M, Part IV).
- On codeshare flights sold by IndiGo but flown by a partner, IndiGo's own Conditions of Carriage apply, except on Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways, where their conditions govern.
- Questions or claims: IndiGo's customer care is on 0124-6173838. Unresolved complaints can be raised on the AirSewa portal.
