- First (Elite)

- Laptops belong inside your carry-on. A laptop bag taken separately is counted as a carry-on piece.
- Extras you may also carry: one small purse or small briefcase, a blanket or coat, an umbrella, crutches or a walking stick, a small camera or binoculars case, limited reading material, an infant's carrying basket, and duty-free goods purchased the day you fly.
Checked baggage
Qatar Airways uses two systems. On piece routes you get a set number of bags with a weight limit each. On weight routes you can check in any number of bags up to your total weight.
Which routes use which system
- Piece routes
- Journeys between Qatar and Africa or the Americas (some routes are exceptions; your booking shows which applies)
- Weight routes
- All other routes, including Europe, the Gulf, Asia and Australasia
Weight routes: free checked baggage
- Economy Lite
- 20 kg
- Economy Classic
- 25 kg
- Economy Convenience
- 30 kg
- Economy Comfort
- 35 kg
- Business Lite, Classic, Comfort and Elite
- 40 kg
- First Elite
- 50 kg
- No limit on the number of bags, as long as the total is within your weight.

Piece routes (Africa and the Americas): free checked baggage
- Economy Lite
- 1 piece up to 23 kg
- Economy Classic, Convenience and Comfort
- 2 pieces up to 23 kg each
- Business and First
- 2 pieces up to 32 kg each
- Each bag: length + width + height of no more than 158 cm, and no more than 32 kg.
- Items above the size limit can be shipped as cargo instead.
Other checked baggage rules
- Different classes on one journey: the allowance of the highest class you fly applies to the whole journey.
- Infants: an infant has a separate checked baggage allowance, shown on the ticket, plus one baby stroller or collapsible carrycot free. An infant with their own seat may also bring a car seat free; an infant with no seat of their own cannot bring a car seat.
- Privilege Club and oneworld members: Silver, Gold and Platinum Privilege Club members, and oneworld Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby members, get extra allowance based on tier and route, shown in your booking.
- Codeshare flights: the allowance follows the IATA "Most Significant Marketing Carrier" rule; the figure printed in your booking confirmation is the one that counts.
- What is accepted: carefully wrapped, sealed boxes that stay inside the size and weight caps. Round or irregular items, bags fastened with loose cord, items wrapped in blankets and bags with dangling straps are refused.
Excess baggage
Excess (extra) baggage is only sold above the free allowance on your booking, and only for Qatar Airways flights, on tickets that Qatar Airways itself issued. Journeys involving other airlines are excluded, and infants cannot have extra weight bought online.
Does the price depend on when you pay?
Yes. Buy before you reach the airport for savings.

Special baggage
Sports equipment, musical instruments and wheelchairs have their own rules.
Sporting equipment
Goes in the hold within your allowance. If it is larger or heavier, purchase extra sporting equipment allowance. Purchase it by 6 hours ahead of departure to get sports rates, which are cheaper than standard extra baggage.
Sports rates for Africa, Argentina, Brazil, Canada and the USA (per piece)
One piece to 23 kg, USD 180; 1 piece from 23 to 32 kg, USD 250. On these routes, with the extra allowance you can take items up to 300 cm (length + width + height).
Sports rates for every other destination
To 10 kg USD 150; 10 to 20 kg USD 200; 20 to 30 kg USD 250.
What counts as sports gear
Golf clubs, bicycles, windsurf and kitesurf gear, diving equipment, trekking and fishing gear, kayaks, skis and sports balls (partly deflated, no more than 70% of full pressure).
Diving gear
Air and gas cylinders must be empty; some diving equipment counts as dangerous goods.
Sporting weapons and ammunition
Taken in the hold or as cargo when every condition is met and Qatar Airways has agreed beforehand.
Musical instruments
Within your checked allowance; extra baggage is charged if over. A fragile instrument may travel in the cabin if you buy a seat for it: up to 75 kg and 120 cm per seat, and up to 3 extra seats per passenger.
Wheelchairs and mobility aids
Carried free. Tell Qatar Airways when you book or afterwards. Battery-powered aids travel as checked baggage provided the battery is intact and not leaking. Request a wheelchair in Manage booking, or in person at an office two days before departure.
Questions travellers ask us
How much cabin baggage can I bring?
Economy: one piece of up to 7 kg. Business and First: two pieces totalling 15 kg. Each piece must fit 50 x 37 x 25 cm.
Is a laptop a separate item?
It should fit inside your carry-on bag. A laptop bag carried on its own counts as your carry-on baggage.
What is the difference between piece and weight routes?
On piece routes (Africa and the Americas) you get a number of bags with a weight limit each. On other routes you get a total weight and can pack any number of bags within it.
Can I carry sports equipment?
Yes. It counts within your allowance. If it pushes you over, buy the special sports allowance by 6 hours ahead of departure: USD 150 to 250 by weight, or USD 180 and USD 250 per piece on Africa and Americas routes.
How can I save money on extra baggage?
Buy online, at a Qatar Airways office or via the Contact Centre, while over 6 hours remain. Rates at the airport are the standard rates in the tables above.
Is extra baggage refundable?
Extra baggage bought online is non-refundable and is lost if you change your itinerary. Changing the date on the same route is allowed.
Baggage Allowance is an independent information site and is not part of Qatar Airways.
