Web and app check-in
- Everyone on the booking can be handled in one session, with several passengers, with seat choice and paid extras.
- Choose your first Malaysia Airlines flight, then enter the 6-character booking reference or the 13-digit e-ticket number.
- Bring the boarding pass printed, on your phone or in Apple Wallet; checked bags go to the bag drop desk.
- Show the pass together with your ID card or passport at the security check, then walk to the gate.
- Passports and visas can be uploaded ahead through the app or website, which shortens check-in.
Self-service kiosks
- Kiosks let you choose a seat and print your boarding pass and bag tag. Look yourself up with the booking reference, e-ticket number, Enrich number or by scanning a barcode. Passport scanning is needed on international flights.
- Kiosks stand at KLIA, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Bharu, Johor Bahru and Langkawi.
- Kiosks are not for passengers who need special service, groups above nine, or standby travellers. Kathmandu and Dhaka flights are the exception to the rule that everyone else must check in online.
- At KLIA, Economy passengers print their own bag tags at the kiosk before the bag drop. If you checked in online, still print the tag at a kiosk. Keep bags inside your allowance, or settle any overweight fee at the excess desk first.
- Recalled electronic devices cannot go in checked baggage.
Counters and city check-in
- Counters help with documents and bags; allow time to reach the gate.
- Auckland counters open 3 hours ahead and shut 60 minutes ahead.
- If you travel to KLIA Terminal 1 on the KLIA Ekspres or KLIA Transit train, you can check in and leave bags at KL CAT inside KL Sentral station, if you hold a valid train ticket. Between 1 July and 31 December 2026 hours are 6:00 to 20:00 daily, with a single staffed counter for Business Class and eligible priority travellers; bags are accepted on the day of travel until two hours before take-off. Kiosks and self bag drop are available there.
- Through check-in to the end destination is offered on separate tickets when your journey starts with Malaysia Airlines and continues on oneworld or codeshare airlines.
Boarding order
- Parents with small kids, and anyone needing mobility or disability support, are called first.
- Your boarding pass shows a zone number that sets your place in the boarding sequence.
