Delta groups its seats into a ladder of cabin experiences. Your choice decides the seat, the service and, on many routes, how many bags you can check for free. The pages Delta used to publish for each cabin have moved, so this article keeps to what Delta's baggage pages say today.
The cabins
- Delta Basic, the lowest fare, sold in the main cabin with the most restrictions.
- Delta Main, the standard economy cabin.
- Delta Comfort, an upgraded economy seat with more room.
- Delta Premium Select, a premium economy cabin on longer routes.
- Delta First, the front cabin on domestic and short international routes.
- Delta One, the long-haul business class.
Bags by cabin
- On US domestic flights, Comfort and Main passengers without a card or status benefit pay $45 for the first checked bag and $55 for the second. Delta Basic is sold within the same baggage fee table.
- Every passenger may bring one free carry-on bag and one personal item, as long as they meet the carry-on size rules.
- Active-duty US military passengers get free checked bags that vary by cabin: two in Main and Comfort, three in Premium Select, First and Delta One on personal travel, and five in any cabin on military orders.
- Medallion members and eligible SkyMiles American Express cardholders can check their first bag free on domestic Delta flights.
Rules for international trips depend on the route. Read the fee tables on Delta's baggage page for your exact flight.
