Delta gives active members of the United States armed forces a more generous checked baggage allowance than other passengers. The page the earlier version of this article summarised has been rewritten, so this update follows the airline's current rules.
Who qualifies
Active members of the Marine Corps, Army, Air Force, Space Force, Navy and Coast Guard. The exceptions apply on trips made on military orders and on leisure trips.

Weight limits per bag follow Delta's standard tiers of 50 lb (23 kg) and 70 lb (32 kg), and no bag may reach 100 lb (45 kg). For size, bags on military orders may measure up to 80 linear inches (203 cm). For personal travel the limit is 62 linear inches (157 cm).
Which tickets are covered
The allowance applies to Delta-marketed tickets. That includes flights operated by Aeromexico, Air France, KLM, Korean Air, LATAM and Virgin Atlantic. Embargoes and regional weight restrictions still apply.
Carry-on and extras
- One free carry-on bag and one personal item, provided they meet the carry-on rules.
- Baggage beyond the free allowance is charged as excess baggage. Check Delta's excess baggage page for your trip.
- Military discounts also extend to Delta Vacations packages.
Pets for military families
Delta accepts animals as checked baggage only for active US military, State Department Foreign Service officers and their spouses or dependents on active transfer orders, for example a permanent change of station. Up to two kennels per flight may be carried; some very large kennels must go as cargo with another provider. Small dogs, cats and household birds can travel in the cabin if they pass security and meet the carry-on pet rules.
