Singapore Airlines helps passengers with a disability or reduced mobility, expectant mothers and children who travel on their own. Contact the Singapore Airlines office nearest you two days or more ahead. On US routes, ask for a wheelchair through the website.
Wheelchairs and disability help
- Meet-and-assist staff look after you from check-in to boarding, and again on arrival and at connections. Every wide-body aircraft has an on-board wheelchair; for a narrow-body aircraft, ask in advance.
- Aim to check in 2 to 3 hours ahead. You can go on first and leave last. Allow extra transit time on connecting itineraries, and expect longer waits at peak times. Requests inside 48 hours may be delayed.
- Help is limited to the steps of leaving, arriving and changing planes, not wider airport walking. At Changi, wheelchairs can be borrowed at every information counter.
- Crew brief blind passengers on safety before take-off, help with meal set-up and identify food. The safety video has a sign-language version.
- Seats in the emergency-exit row are never given to passengers with disabilities, but other seat needs can be arranged.
- Crew do not feed passengers, help in the lavatory or at the seat, or give medical care; bring a companion if you need such support. A travelling companion for safety is also required if a sensory or cognitive condition prevents you from taking in the briefing.
- A wheelchair or similar aid of your own goes in the hold, free of your allowance. Heavy or bulky aids (over 25 kg) call for earlier arrival. Check the size limit for your aircraft: for example A350-900 1.65 x 0.85 x 0.70 m, A380 2.47 x 0.65 x 0.60 m, Boeing 737-8 1.09 x 1.22 x 0.78 m, 777-300ER 3.12 x 0.84 x 1.01 m and 787-10 2.41 x 0.89 x 1.11 m.
- A battery-powered wheelchair needs airline approval, and so does travel in a group of 10 or more wheelchair users; call at least 48 hours ahead. Lithium batteries must have UN38.3 test certification. Fitted batteries stay on the chair, switched off; removable batteries go in the cabin, at most 300 Wh for one battery or 160 Wh each for two, with the same limits for spares.
Pregnancy
- Up to week 28
- No medical certificate. If your return flight falls after week 28, you must show a certificate for it. Emergency-exit seats are not available.
- Uncomplicated single pregnancy, weeks 29 to 36
- Doctor's letter saying you are fit to fly, with weeks of pregnancy and due date, issued up to ten days before the first flight beyond week 28; show it if asked at check-in
- Uncomplicated multiple pregnancy, weeks 29 to 32
- Same certificate rules
- Single pregnancy beyond week 36, multiple beyond week 32
- No flying
Weeks are counted from the expected date of delivery. Talk to your gynaecologist before booking. Complicated pregnancies need individual advice: contact Singapore Airlines.
Children travelling alone
- Under 5
- Not allowed to travel alone
- 5 to under 12
- The Unaccompanied Minors Handling Service must be used
- 12 to under 18
- Service is optional and may carry a fee; without it, book online and present a signed Unaccompanied Minors Waiver Form at check-in
- To arrange it, contact Singapore Airlines and send in the Unaccompanied Minors Handling Service Form. The service covers the whole journey, not part of it.
- An adult has to stay with every under-18 until check-in is done. Drop-off should be within 4 hours of take-off.
- Connections must not exceed 24 hours, and an overnight stay is allowed only at Singapore Changi. Transfers between two airports in one city are not covered. At Frankfurt the service is not available for transfers.
- Children below 15 cannot sit in an emergency-exit row.
- Scoot does not accept unaccompanied minors aged 5 to 12. On partner airlines, ask the partner.
- Extra documents may be needed for travel to or from France, Italy, the Philippines, South Africa and Vietnam. For Vietnam, children under 14 travelling alone must use the service and cannot waive it.

2 questions and answers
You just have to check the airline policies in this respect. Advance notification is not required unless you want any special assistance from airline. However, do check the progress of pregnancy till the date of travel and know about airline policy regarding need of fit to fly certificate.
If you are coming on Singapore Airlines only, there is no issue till 36th week of pregnancy in case of normal pregnancy. However, you will need a Fit to Fly Certificate.
