- Your bag has to fit into the overhead compartment or beneath the seat ahead. Singapore Airlines decides whether an item travels in the cabin or the hold.

An additional piece may weigh up to 23 kg in Economy and Premium Economy, and 32 kg in Business, First and Suites. The "extra 9 kg" charge is for a piece within your free allowance that exceeds the weight limit (up to 32 kg); the oversize charge is for a piece within your free allowance over 158 cm. Charges for a trip are added together. Pre-purchase and last-minute discounts do not apply to tickets with a stopover of 24 hours or more. For itineraries other than those listed, an additional piece is USD 150 and each heavy or oversize charge is USD 100.

Special baggage
Sports gear and instruments travel as checked baggage (some in the cabin) when packed as described. Non-standard baggage other than sporting equipment cannot exceed 200 x 75 x 80 cm. Poorly packed equipment is turned away. Odd-shaped checked items may appear on a separate carousel, so follow the odd-sized baggage signs.
Sporting equipment, general
Takes up part of your hold allowance, with ordinary extra baggage charges above it. Most sporting gear on Canada and USA routes is one piece (a canoe is two). Each item: 32 kg and 315 x 75 x 80 cm at most. Anything longer than 240 cm needs a call to Singapore Airlines five working days or more before the flight.
Archery, baseball, fishing, hang gliding, hockey and lacrosse, parachutes, surfboards, water skis
Taken as checked baggage inside a padded bag or rigid case. A parachute may hold no gas cylinders or dangerous goods. Hang-gliding equipment can be packed in separate bags.
Bicycles
Checked, in a hard-side bicycle case, cardboard or padded protective case. Handlebars fixed in line with the frame, pedals and other projecting parts taken off, nothing sticking out, tyres let down. Motorised or battery-driven bicycles are refused, as are plastic bags and soft unpadded cases. Bicycles skip the oversized bag fee, but the normal hold fees and overweight charges still apply.
Golf
Checked, inside a padded bag or rigid case. Golf trolleys with a battery drive cannot fly on passenger services.
Ski and snowboard
Checked, inside a padded bag or rigid case. A helmet may travel with your cabin baggage but is counted as a cabin piece, not an accessory.
Scuba diving equipment
Checked, inside a padded bag or rigid case. Empty the cylinders and leave the valves open; deflate the buoyancy vest. Take the battery and bulb out of diving lights and pack them apart, in the cabin.
Windsurfing
Checked, dismantled, in well-padded bags (one bag for the board, others for the mast, the sail, the fin and the boom) with no sharp edges protruding.
Canoes and kayaks, javelins, vaulting poles
Call Singapore Airlines five working days or more before your flight. Pack inside a padded bag or rigid case. Motors and electrical parts of canoes and kayaks cannot be flown on passenger services.
Racket sports (tennis, squash, badminton, padel, pickleball)
Checked, inside a padded bag or rigid case. From Indonesia, rackets go in the hold and may not be taken to the cabin.
Bowling
Checked, inside a padded bag or rigid case. Ball cleaners with acetone or alcohol over 70% are not accepted.
Inflatable sport balls
Cabin or checked, once deflated enough that they no longer bounce. Balls without a deflation valve are not accepted.
Skateboards and longboards
Cabin or checked, inside a padded bag or rigid case. Electric ones are not allowed.
Avalanche rescue backpacks
Cabin or checked provided the airbag cannot go off by accident, the airbags have pressure relief valves, only integrated gas cylinders are carried, the battery is removed (and carried in the cabin), and the pack contains no more than 200 mg of gunpowder, no flammable or toxic gas and no Division 1.4 explosives or CO2 cartridges. A representative inspects the pack first.
Hunting and firearms
Hunting and pocket knives travel in the hold alone. For sporting firearms and ammunition, contact Singapore Airlines first: you are responsible for permits and licences. Remove all ammunition; maximum 5 kg of ammunition per passenger in a sturdy box, no explosive or incendiary projectiles; firearms stowed in a suitcase or gun case; group members carry their own ammunition.
Musical instruments, checked
Keep them in a hard, rigid transport case (avoid soft cases; slacken the strings of string instruments). A cello or full-size guitar that exceeds the cabin limit is checked and counts towards your allowance.
Musical instruments, cabin seat
You can buy an extra seat, and the instrument is secured to it. Limits: 44 x 30 x 30 cm on Boeing 737 aircraft, or 127 x 43 x 30 cm on other types, and 40 kg. Arrange it with Singapore Airlines beforehand.
Musical instruments, cabin
A small instrument such as a violin is treated as your cabin bag when the case's length + width + height is 115 cm or less and the weight is 7 kg or less.
Urns and pet ashes
Cabin or checked, packed in shock-absorbing material inside a container with a special lid, securely sealed. Keep the death certificate and cremation certificate with the passenger.
Alcohol-based disinfectants and sanitising gels in hold bags
No more than 0.5 kg or 0.5 litre per article, and 2.0 kg or 2.0 litres in total.
Locks and batteries
Use TSA-approved locks only on flights to and from the USA. Gadgets with batteries in hold bags have to be fully switched off and protected against being turned on by accident.
Travelling with pets
Which pets
Only cats and dogs, as checked baggage, at least three months old, not pregnant, and not a prohibited breed. Pets are not accepted on all Boeing 737 flights, because the hold there has no temperature control. They are not accepted on SQ21 from Newark or SQ23 from New York to Singapore (use SQ25 from New York).
Weight limit
If your pet and its container together weigh more than 32 kg, send the pet by a cargo agent.
Before you travel
Get in touch with Singapore Airlines two weeks or more before departure, giving your pet's type or breed, gender, name, age, colour, weight, container weight and container dimensions. Pets travelling to or from other airlines are not accepted.
Documents out of Singapore
Export licence, indemnity form, veterinary health certificate, rabies vaccination letter, transshipment licence (if any) and the pet's passport (if any). To or through Singapore: import or transshipment licence valid for 90 days, indemnity form, veterinary health certificate and vaccination records with the microchip number.
Prohibited dog breeds (including crosses and other flat-faced breeds)
Akita, Boerboel, Boston Terrier, Boxer, Brussels Griffon, Bulldogs (American, French and English), Chow Chow, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Japanese Chin, Lhasa Apso, Mastiffs (including Neapolitan and Dogue de Bordeaux), Perro de Presa Canario, Pit Bull Terriers (including American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bulldog and Staffordshire Bull Terrier), Pugs, Shar-Pei, Shih Tzu, flat-faced spaniels (Cavalier King Charles, English Toy, Tibetan) and Tosa.
Prohibited cat breeds (including crosses and other flat-faced breeds)
British Shorthair, Burmese, Exotic Shorthair, Himalayan, Persian and Scottish Fold.
Refused in the hold
On flights into or out of: Australia, Brunei, Denpasar (Bali), London Gatwick, Manchester, New Zealand, South Africa, and into London Heathrow, Dubai and Hong Kong.
Container
Must meet IATA standards, with enough room to stand, turn, sit and lie down, ventilation on at least three sides, and food and water containers. Maximum height: 70 cm on A350, 60 cm on A380, 101 cm on B777, 111 cm on B787. Pets travel in separate containers; two puppies or kittens of the same litter (3 to 6 months, under 14 kg each) can share one.
At the airport
Check in at least two hours before departure (three hours from the USA), at the same counter as you, with the documents and the signed indemnity form. Pets travel in the temperature-controlled bulk hold with fixed food and water bowls.
Charges
Your pet and its container are not part of your free allowance. They are additional baggage and are charged separately, with no pre-paid or discounted rates. On all flights except to and from the USA, the charge depends on the total weight of the pet and its container. To and from the USA, the pet and its container count as two additional pieces. A pet transiting Singapore may incur additional fees.
Assistance dogs
Have their own rules and can travel in the cabin; see Singapore Airlines' assistance dog page.

Thank you
You have to tell us the route of travel and cabin class, so that we can give you answer for excess baggage. If you want to check the rates, the same are provided in the content above.
Can you please advise are the bag deminsions combined limited to only US and Canada or internationally as well. I am flying with Singapore from New Zealand and my bag is 172cm when the limit says 158.. But it also kind of looks like that's only for US and Canada ?
Also wondering if you can confirm what the options are in my circumstance. How much extra will it cost for the exceeded limit per flight and is it assured to still be travelling with me instead kf being sent separately if that make sense.
Thanks for the help.
Kind Regards,

I am flying chennai to Singapore flexi ticket with 30 kg allowance. Can I take two suitcases both together weighing 30 kg or only one piece weighing 30 kg? Please help .
You can take more than one bag totalling 30 kg together. Keep the size within given limits.
Thank you
Since yours is a non-US route, weight based system of baggage allowance applies and, therefore, the charges for excess baggage are expressed in per kg terms.
If you buy at airport, the charges are USD 50 per excess kg.
However, if you buy online, and before 48 hrs of scheduled departure time of flight, the charges are USD38 per kg.
But, if you buy online and in time period from 48 hrs to 6 hrs before scheduled departure time of flight, the charges are USD 45 per kg.
So, it is good to buy online on website of the airline before 48 hrs from scheduled departure time of flight since the charges are lowest at this time.
Singapore has 4 economy class fares. Economy Lite and Value fares allow 25 kg per passenger in Check-in baggage. Economy Standard and Flexi fares are allowed 30 kg per passenger. Please check which fare of economy have you bought. There is no limitation on the number of check in bags being carried within same weight allowance.
It shall be acceptable.
My wife and i are flying from bangkok to singapore by singapore airlines. Each of us had a maximum weight of 30kg.Total weight is 60kg.Can i split it to 3 baggages of 20kg
Yes, you can take the total baggage weight into 3 check in bags for two passengers after clubbing.
We are not experts in Visa matters. Sorry, would not be able to offer any advice in this respect.
USD 21 per excess kg will be charged if you pre-purchase it online. The airport charges would be higher than this at USD 28 per kg.
Economy Lite, Standard and Flexi tickets have check in baggage allowance of upto 30 kg, 30kg and 35 kg respectively. Which of these tickets have you bought? Cabin allowance is of 1 bag of 7 kg and sum of dimensions 115 cm (L+b+h)
Please check with the airline for confirmation as we think this can be taken in check in baggage in sealed condition.
by the way my flight is on 29 to 30rd of this month ... Thank you
You can carry a laptop in addition to hand baggage. Laptop bag shall have sum of dimensions up to 80 cm, not more than that.
30 kg includes total weight including that of the bag also.
1. Can we combine our weight allowance between both of us, or is it 30kg per person and not allowed to be combined.
2. Are we allowed to take 3 X 20 kg bags? We are in our 70’s and 30 kg bag is too heavy for us to handle.
If you combine the baggage allowances of check in luggage, which is allowed by airlines for people traveling on same pnr, the weight of any single check in baggage will increase beyond 32kg which is not allowed. So, in effect, this clubbing will not be possible due to max weight restrictions for a check in bag.
My question is: How many additional pieces of baggage can I buy? Is the cost the same if the weight is below 32 kg? What will the cost be?
Can you provide leg-wise journey breakup along with the airline flying that leg of journey. How many bags do you want to check in in total?
You can take more than one check in bag for a total of 30 kg allowance.
Do you know how many pieces of luggage (suitcase) in Economy class is allowed from Sydney to Mumbai via Singapore ?
I know for Economy it is 30kg but how many pieces of bags can i carry.?
Can i carry 2 bags that comes totals to 30kg? Or it is Only 1 bag = 30kg ?
Thanks.
You can bring more than one check-in bag within 30 kg overall weight allowance for free. Size of 158 cm in sum of dimensions L+B+H shall be observed.
If you economy ticket is booked in W or standard fare type, there is no additional check in baggage allowance. However, if it is any other H,M or E,B,Y ticket, then you are allowed one additional check in bag of up to 23 kg. You will have to send student visa and one way ticket details and a request for additional baggage allowance at BOM_feedback@singaporeair.com.sg. Please check with the airline local office for further details.

Will my checked in luggage go directly from Melbourne to Athens?
Just to add, Singapore Airlines is the first operating carrier in your case, ie from Melbourne to Singapore and from Singapore to Athens on Scoot. As Singapore Airlines is the first carrier, your baggage will be through checked in. You can always ask this from airline customer service for confirmation.
You have not mentioned the route of travel.
USD 150 is the charge for US flights. Else, you can also go for discounted pre-paid charge of USD 120.
Yes, that is fine. You have not mentioned the destination.
