Cabin baggage

  • Small personal bag: free on every fare, up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm (a handbag or laptop bag). It has to go beneath the seat ahead of you.
  • Priority & 2 Cabin Bags: adds a second bag of up to 10 kg and 55 x 40 x 20 cm for the overhead locker, plus priority boarding.
  • Infants (8 days to 23 months): no cabin bag of their own, though a baby bag of up to 5 kg (45 x 35 x 20 cm) may come along for a baby held on an adult's lap.

Cabin bags are measured in the sizers at the gate. A small bag or 10 kg cabin bag that will not fit is refused or, where possible, moved to the hold for a fee (EUR/GBP 70 to 75 for an oversize cabin bag). When Priority & 2 Cabin Bags has sold out, a 10 kg check-in bag can be added instead and left at the desk ahead of security.

Bags can be pooled between passengers on the same booking, so two 20 kg bags give 40 kg to share, but no bag may weigh more than 32 kg. Bags bought cannot be removed or refunded. A bought bag brought to the boarding gate is charged a fee to be placed in the hold (a 10 kg check-in bag: €/£46 to €/£75).

Excess and oversize baggage

  • Excess weight: €/£13 per extra kilo, paid at the airport (the airport desk, call centre or kiosk).
  • Limit: Ryanair does not accept any item over 32 kg, or with dimensions over 80 + 120 + 120 cm combined. This weight limit does not apply to mobility equipment.
  • Oversize bags: go to the Oversize Baggage Desk and are charged a fee.
  • Online: excess baggage cannot be bought online on flights from some airports, including Milan Bergamo, Birmingham, Bologna, Bristol, Cardiff, Dublin, Edinburgh, Krakow, Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Naples, Newcastle and London Stansted. Buy it at the check-in desk.
  • Valuables: a Special Declaration of Value (€/£50, bought at the airport sales desk) lifts Ryanair's liability ceiling from roughly €1,800 to €2,800 per person.

Sports equipment and instruments

Sports and music gear that is small enough for your cabin allowance can ride on board. Bigger items go in the hold for a fee, or travel on a seat bought for them (book it under the first name EXTRA and the surname ITEM SEAT; that seat has no baggage entitlement). The usual hold-bag allowances do not cover these items. Most may weigh up to 20 kg, and weight above that is charged per kilo.
