Wheelchairs and reduced mobility

  • Notify the airline two days or more ahead: use the online form after booking, mention it when booking by phone, or tell your travel agent. Day-of-travel requests are accepted but cannot be guaranteed.
  • Service codes: WCHR suits those who tire over distance but manage stairs; WCHS those who cannot manage stairs and are taken to their seat; WCHC those who cannot walk at all and also need a chair in the cabin.
  • Agents accompany you at the airport, and you may board and leave before other passengers. Frankfurt and Munich have a waiting lounge for long stopovers accessible by wheelchair.
  • Up to two mobility devices travel free, in the hold. After landing, your chair comes back at the aircraft door or, at worst, in the baggage hall (not at the door in Addis Ababa, Asmara, Billund, Cagliari, Catania, Hamburg, Hannover, Nuremberg, Olbia, Palermo, Riyadh, Stuttgart or Valencia).
  • On board there is a wheelchair 36 cm wide, so you can reach the toilet, and crew help with stowing baggage, meals and a personal safety briefing. Almost all seats have movable armrests.
  • Crew may not lift or carry anyone. If you need help changing seats, eating or using the toilet, bring a companion aged 18 or over.
  • If the airline damages your mobility device, it waives the Montreal Convention limit and pays actual value or repair cost.
  • Some airports cannot offer step-free boarding, and every long-haul aircraft has an accessible toilet.

Pregnancy

Uncomplicated single pregnancy
No gynaecologist's certificate needed up to the end of week 36, or up to four weeks before the due date
After week 28
A current gynaecologist's certificate is recommended: pregnancy uncomplicated, due date, and a statement that it does not prevent flying
Uncomplicated twins or multiples
Can fly until the end of week 32
  • The airline provides a pregnancy statement form for the doctor. Talk to your gynaecologist before the flight.
  • Compression stockings are advised because pregnancy raises the thrombosis risk.

You can call the airline and ask for the Unaccompanied Minor service. It will entail some charges as well. Under this service, the airline staff takes care of the child all through the journey. You will also be required to furnish details of person who would be taking the child on arrival. That person come with valid ID proof at airport of arrival. Please seek details from the airline directly.
