Wheelchairs and disabilities
- Contact Accessibility Services at least 48 hours before departure. Requests inside that window are met on a reasonable-effort basis; for travel within 48 hours, call the Medical Desk on 1-800-667-4732 (6 am to 8 pm Eastern on weekdays, 6 am to 6 pm at weekends).
- An agent must confirm your request. Wheelchair users see an agent at the airport rather than checking in online.
- Battery-powered wheelchairs and scooters are accepted with special handling: print two copies of the Powered Mobility Aid Information Form, attach one to the aid and keep one. Terminals must be insulated and the battery securely attached, though it need not be removed. Spare batteries go in carry-on bags, not checked bags.
- Passengers with disabilities and their companions are refunded if the accessibility features they need change because of a seat or aircraft change, or a different connection airport.
Pregnancy
- If the pregnancy is straightforward and there is no past premature labour, you may fly through week 36.
- For a high-risk pregnancy, or from week 36 on, your healthcare professional must fill in the Air Travel Requirements Assessment form, submitted to Accessibility Services for medical clearance, ideally at least 48 hours before travel.
- Air Canada Vacations customers must disclose a pregnancy when booking.
Children travelling alone
- Under 8
- Not offered; must travel with a passenger aged 16 or over seated next to them in the same cabin
- 8 to 11
- The Unaccompanied Minor service must be bought
- 12 to 17
- Optional
- Limited to non-stop Air Canada, Rouge and Jazz-flown Express services, so no connections or codeshares.
- Arrange it with Reservations or a travel agent. Fee: CAD or USD 100 to 118 each way per child, including a meal or hot snack on Bistro-only flights.
- The parent or adult remains in the terminal until take-off. Children board before others, wear a lanyard, and are advised seats toward the back of Air Canada aircraft. A meeting adult must show photo ID and sign for the envelope with the child's documents.
- A child cannot travel alone if blind or deaf, severely allergic (peanuts, cats, dogs or others), needing medication or special care, or likely to react badly to air travel; other conditions need prior medical approval.
- Bring original ID (a passport for US and international trips). No lounge access for children under the legal drinking age. Not available on some peak dates; check the notice.
