Cabin baggage that does not follow the rules and is untagged is charged at the boarding gate and carried in the hold. If the hold is full it travels to your destination on the next available flight, so show your bag to staff for tagging at check-in.
On busy flights the crew may ask you to hand over your standard cabin bag at check-in or to the attendants. It is then treated as checked baggage at no extra charge, so keep valuables and essentials with you.
Personal items go under the seat in front of you.
For a trip with another airline (interline), the operating airline's cabin baggage allowance applies.

Checked baggage

Your free checked baggage depends on your route and package. Turkish Airlines gives it through a baggage calculator on its website, so use that, or the baggage information on your ticket, to see your own right and the extra baggage fees.

Size: each piece within the free allowance must be no more than 158 cm.
Weight: where the piece concept applies, one bag may weigh up to 23 kg in Economy (a heavier bag is charged extra) and up to 32 kg in Business. No single piece may pass 32 kg, so anything heavier has to be split into two or more pieces.
Concepts: some routes use the piece concept (number of bags) and others the weight concept (total kilograms). Domestic flights use the weight concept.
Star Alliance Gold card holders: +1 extra piece on piece-concept routes, or +20 kg on weight-concept routes, in addition to the baggage on their ticket.
Excess baggage fees: vary with the package you chose when buying the ticket.

Infants and strollers

Passengers travelling with an infant may carry a stroller of up to 115 cm and 8 kg of cabin baggage. Infants have no extra checked baggage on EcoFly lines that include no free baggage. On other lines the infant gets 1 piece of 23 kg (piece concept) or 10 kg (weight concept).

Flights with other airlines

On a trip with several airlines, the rules of the most significant carrier usually apply, under IATA rules. On interline flights to or from the United States or Canada, the rules of the first marketing carrier apply.

I am flying from Mumbai to Stuttgart via Istanbul.
In my ticket it's mentioned 40 kg check in bags + 8 kg hand bags.
I have some questions
1. Is that 40 kg including the weight of the bags , my check in bags weigh 3.2 kg each? (Important respond as soon as possible)
2. Can we carry a laptop bag with the cabin bag (8 kg ) and how much the laptop bag should weigh as my laptop and accessories are about 3.5 kg total

  40 kg is the total check in baggage allowance. You can take this is two bags. Laptop can be carried. It can be taken as a personal item of weight not more than 4 kg.

I am travelling from Mumbai to Copenhagen via Turkish airlines in economy class. On ticket it's mentioned baggage limit for checked in is 40 kg and hand baggage a is 8 kg. Does it means total 48 kg or 32+8 kg?

Hi, I still don't understand and I'm confused. I'm flying from Warsaw through Instabul and then to Jakarta. Everything with Turkish. My booking says max 30kg. Can I have ONE big (30kg) suitcase with me? I don't want to split it in two suitcases, but I can see on Turkish website everywhere information about having max 23kg baggage and I feel lost...

  It can be taken in this manner on the condition that the passengers shall be travelling on same PNR. Clubbing of the check in bags is generally allowed for weight-based baggage allowance system.

I am boarding my flight on 10th Aug from mumbai and will be having a two stop to reach skyharbor phoenix airport. I have realized that I will be definately exceeding the weight limit for check in bags. As well as I have an extra luggage bag. I have a total of around 90kg in check in and 10kg in carry on bags. I have booked an economy seat from mumbai to Istanbul to JFK and finally landing at phoenix Arizona. How much approximately do I need to pay for the extra luggage per kg?   First, you shall not exceed the baggage allowance either of check in baggage or the cabin baggage. If you do, it is an earning opportunity for the airline.
  
  Second, with respect to your allowance, are all flight sectors being flown by Turkish airline? If yes, then your allowance is 2 bags of 23 kg each in check in and 1 bag of 8 kg in cabin. If you are taking 90 kg in checkin, then there is an excess of 44 kgs in check in which means that you have to take two additional bags of about 23 kg each. This shall be about USD 200 per additional bag of upto 23 kg each.

  It is suggested to take medicine in cabin bag if this is required during the fight. Else, it is better to check in all of these with proper seal. If perfume is very expensive, it can be taken in cabin but the limit of 100ml applies.

  Till Istanbul, 30 kg is the free check in baggage allowance. From Istanbul to Edinburgh, the free allowance is 0 kg for Ecofly, 23 kg for ExtraFly and 30 kg for PrimeFly fare classes within Economy cabin. So, we suggest you check with respective airlines as well for which allowance is applicable on the later half of your journey.

The cabin bag of 8 kg and 23x40x55 size is allowed and one additional personal item, laptop in your case, can also be taken. This additional item shall not be more than 4 kg weight and 40x30x15 size limit.
