An extra piece on a weight-allowance ticket is USD 30 between Hong Kong and Zones 1 to 3 and within Zones 1 to 3, and USD 60 to or from Zone 4.
Special baggage
Sports equipment
Counts as one checked piece within your allowance: any golf, hockey, fishing, ski, windsurf, surf, climbing or similar equipment, suitably packed firearms, a pre-booked avalanche backpack, or one suitably packed bicycle. No item may be longer than 203 cm and normal weight limits apply. Heavier or extra kit pays excess baggage.
Bicycles
Contact Customer Care at least 72 hours before departure. Single-seat non-motorised touring or racing bike, handlebars fixed sideways or parallel to the frame, pedals removed or fixed inwards, tyres deflated, packed in a strong hard case or bicycle box (100 cm height limit from Madrid).
Avalanche rescue backpack
One per passenger, in cabin or checked, airbag with pressure relief valves, data sheet shown at check-in.
Sporting firearms
One rifle case with up to two rifles, 5 kg of ammunition, a shooting mat, noise suppressor and small tools; or two shotguns in two cases; or one pistol case with up to five pistols, 5 kg of ammunition and accessories. Hong Kong law requires an import licence before landing. Contact Customer Care.
Musical instruments
Small ones go in the cabin (7 kg and 93 x 39 x 24 cm including the case, hard case with rounded edges). Larger ones such as guitars and cellos are checked, with the hard case counted in the weight, or travel in a purchased extra seat if up to 136 x 48 x 44 cm and 32 kg including the case. Book the seat through Customer Care at least three working days ahead.
Mobility devices and scooters
Carried as checked baggage within the 32 kg and 203 cm piece limits, so a heavy scooter has to be split into parts. Contact Customer Care first.
Questions travellers ask us
How much cabin baggage can I take?
One bag of 7 kg in economy and premium economy (10 kg in business, 15 kg in first), plus one small item such as a laptop bag.
Can I add a laptop bag to the 7 kg cabin bag?
Yes, as the small item, up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm. It does not count toward the 7 kg.
Is the checked allowance by weight or by pieces?
By pieces. Older tickets quote totals of 20, 25, 30 or 40 kg, which is the older weight system. Today Light is 1 piece of 23 kg and Essential or Flex 2 pieces of 23 kg, and your e-ticket shows it as PC or K (for example 2PC or 23K).
How much is an extra bag?
From USD 100 within Asia up to USD 260 between the Americas and Zone 5 or 6, per piece. Buy at least 24 hours ahead for up to 10% off.
What is the heaviest single bag?
32 kg (70 lb) and 203 cm total dimension. Above that, contact Customer Care three working days ahead.
What if my flight includes another airline?
The cabin or checked allowance can differ. For checked baggage on those tickets follow Cathay Pacific's carrier rules, and for cabin baggage ask the partner airline.
Baggage Allowance is an independent information site and is not part of Cathay Pacific.

I'm struggling to find details about what I'm allowed to pack in the checked in baggage and what must be declared. I would like to include chocolates, lollies(candy) and biscuits in my checked luggage.

Norah
You can take these items in check in baggage without declaring unless these are being carried in very large quantities.
You have not mentioned the route of flight.
No, it has to be checked in.
It will be based on check in baggage allowance policy of Cathay Pacific. IT would allowed 30 kg check in baggage as standard free allowance for economy class travellers. If you are travelling on a different cabin class, please let us know.
As a matter of fact, it is USD 60 per excess kg. On your route, baggage allowance is as per weight and not as per piece.
