This article used to list which fare types earned Velocity Status Credits (Getaway, Elevate and Freedom on domestic flights, and similar groups for other routes). Virgin Australia changed the system for bookings made from 2 April 2025, so the fare-type table no longer describes how new bookings earn credits. This update follows Velocity's own status page.
How credits are earned on Virgin Australia flights

- Credits apply to flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia, and to flights on Velocity airline partners that award them.
- Reward Seat bookings do not earn Status Credits.
- Credits you earn expire 365 days after the date earned, except Forever Gold balances.
Other ways to collect credits
- Flying partner airlines. The credits depend on distance, airline and fare class.
- Pooling credits with up to five family members at the same address.
- Linking Flybuys and shopping at Coles, Coles Online and Liquorland.
- Using a Velocity Frequent Flyer credit card.

Red is the entry level when you join. A status lasts at least 12 months. From 1 October 2025 Velocity also offers Forever Gold, which keeps Gold benefits for eligible members long term.
