Sports gear is welcome on Qatar Airways flights provided it stays inside the checked allowance and the bag size rules. When it makes you exceed the allowance, an add-on for sports equipment can be purchased. The airline's earlier price grid by region pair has been replaced by a simple table.
Sizes
Between Qatar and Africa or the Americas, a checked bag is limited to 158 cm when you add its three sides together. On those routes the sports add-on raises the ceiling to 300 cm.
Rates for extra sporting allowance
Valid when purchased up to six hours ahead, through the website, a Qatar Airways office, the contact centre or the agent who sold your ticket. The airport price is higher than the online one.

Packing advice from the airline
- Diving: use a scuba bag, a hard case for masks, keep the regulator and computer in your cabin bag, empty the buoyancy vest and cylinders, and wrap knives and torches carefully. Some items count as dangerous goods.
- Fishing: use padded hard cases made for rods.
- Skis: padded bags are fine, hard cases are preferred.
- Balls: release air until they hold no more than 70% of their capacity.
- Inflatable kayaks: dry, deflate, fold and roll them from bow to stern, then pack in a padded bag.
- Windsurf and kite gear: take it apart and use a board bag.
- Trekking gear: pad the bags and remove sharp edges. Fuel, knives, poles, stoves and multi-tools cannot go in the cabin.
- Sporting weapons and ammunition: allowed in checked baggage only with prior approval.
