In August 2017 Dubai Airports announced new baggage rules to improve baggage handling at Dubai International (DXB). One of them was that bags must have at least one flat surface. The airport did not want irregularly shaped bags on its baggage system. This article records that rule. We could not read the text of the airport's current baggage regulations page for this update, so we are not adding any sizes or details that we could not confirm.
What the 2017 announcement said
- A bag should have at least one flat surface.
- The aim was to make baggage services faster and safer for passengers.
What Dubai Airports lists on its baggage page
The page for DXB groups its information under these headings: baggage tips, baggage services, trolleys, baggage wrapping, short-term storage, a baggage delivery service, baggage regulations and baggage reclaim.
What to do before you travel
- Open the Dubai Airports baggage page and read the regulations section for any size or shape limits.
- Check your airline's own baggage rules too, because the airline decides what it will accept.
- If your bag is an unusual shape or very large, ask the airline before you reach the airport.
