  • The extra allowance applies on flights operated by Thai Airways (and on tickets wholly on Thai or with interline partners that accept it).
  • If you are involuntarily moved to a lower class, the higher class allowance applies. On mixed-class journeys the allowance of the highest class paid for applies.
  • Government and other agreed official travellers can have a different allowance, printed on the ticket.
  • A folding stroller goes in the hold at no charge.
  • If a partner airline is involved, its rules may apply. On codeshare flights the "most significant carrier" (usually the marketing carrier) sets the rule; when the US is involved, the marketing carrier sets the rule.
  • Bags need proper packing, and Thai Airways may turn away a badly packed one. A stopover starts a fresh allowance calculation from that point.

Excess baggage

Does the price depend on when you pay?

Prepaid: online, by call centre, at a Thai city ticket office or via an agent, no later than 24 hours before the first flight departs
Prepaid piece rates (tables below)
At the check-in counter or Thai airport ticket office
Higher airport piece rates (tables below)

Check-ins in Thailand use the baht rates; elsewhere the US dollar rates apply, changed into local money at the selling point. Charges are per piece by zone. An added piece may weigh up to 23 kg in Premium Economy and Economy, and up to 32 kg in Royal First, Royal Silk and Premium Economy Plus, and must stay within 158 cm. No bag may pass 32 kg or 330 cm. A passenger may be capped at 10 checked pieces. Child and infant discounts do not apply. The fee cannot be refunded, even in part. These charges apply to travel from 2 March 2026 until Thai says otherwise.

    Hi Sir,
My flight is booked from Mumbai to Sydney by thai airways . I am carrying Gutair with me which weigh around 2kg x length 102cm & plus handbag 5kg, am i allowed to bring both in cabin.
    1. Answer

You will be allowed to carry it in cabin only if it meets cabin bag size requirements, specially the length. You guitar length is 102 cm which is more than 100 cm allowed in checkin for free. So, you might be asked to pay extra charge if the airline officials at the airport do not ignore this.

this 32 kg upper weight limit applies when travelling from Pakistan to Australia as well? what is upper weight limit for carry-in baggage (if any)? also curious no such thing is available on website. it says max limit is 30Kg on economy class can you clarify?
    1. Answer

30 kg is the free allowance, but the max weight you can keep in check-in bag is 32 kg. If some passenger has a 40 kg free allowance, he will have to put this in 2 bags because one can not be more than 32 kg (for ease of handling at the airport).
