Cabin baggage
- Cabin bag (overhead locker)
- 1 piece, 56 x 36 x 23 cm (22 x 14 x 9 in), up to 7 kg (15 lb)
- Personal item (under the seat)
- 1 item, 45 x 35 x 20 cm (18 x 14 x 8 in): handbag or purse, overcoat or blanket, laptop with case, reading material, duty free bag, or infant food for the flight
- Also allowed, one item
- Crutches, walkers, collapsible wheelchairs, walking stick or prosthetic device (if you depend on them); small musical instrument; small camera or binoculars; extension cord or power strip
- Not counted as one
- Items strapped, wrapped or tied together count separately
- Guitars and instruments that do not fit overhead or under the seat go in the hold, in a hard or soft case.
- Intercepted hand carry fee: passengers departing Seattle, San Francisco, Vancouver or Toronto may be charged USD 125 (CAD 125) if they carry more than one hand-carry piece, or one piece over the size or weight limit. That bag is then checked.
- Valuable or fragile items that must stay in the cabin but are too large (medical equipment, religious items, instruments) need their own seat, priced at 100 percent of the economy or premium economy fare. One item per seat, up to 32 kg, no taller than the seat back, in a window or middle seat next to you.
Free checked baggage
The allowance depends on the fare family and the route. Each bag may weigh at most 32 kg (70 lb); heavier bags are not accepted until repacked. On weight-system routes you may check several bags within your total weight.

At most two pieces of 23 kg and one piece of 32 kg may be prepaid on piece-system routes. For trips that do not start in the Philippines the airline sets area rates, for example USD 115 for each 23 kg piece and USD 160 for a 32 kg piece from the Middle East to the Americas; USD 210 and USD 275 between Japan and North America; USD 55 and USD 70 from Japan to Asia.
- Prepaid baggage is confirmed on full payment, is not refundable, transferable or re-routable, and is forfeited on no-show. If the flight is cancelled or disrupted and you do not travel, it is refunded in full.
- If your bag weighs less than you prepaid there is no refund; if it weighs more, the standard excess charge applies to the difference.
- You can upgrade prepaid baggage (the rate difference is collected) up to 4 hours before departure, and carry it over to an earlier same-day flight or a rebooked flight on the same route.
- Pooling is allowed for passengers on the same flight who check in together.
- Sports equipment, pets and cabin seat baggage cannot be prepaid and pay the standard rate.
- Passengers on ID or AD staff tickets may buy prepaid baggage.

Special baggage
Sports equipment
Carried with normal baggage and charged at standard excess rates, except one set of each of the following, counted as one item: snow ski set (one pair of skis, poles and boots), golf set (bag with clubs and one pair of shoes), one surfboard or wakeboard (not windsurf), one sleeping bag or bedroll, one non-motorised bicycle, one set of fishing equipment. A second item is charged. Skis and surfboards need a sturdy outer container; bicycles need handlebars turned, tyres deflated and pedals, lamps and mirrors removed.
Musical instruments
Free if within your allowance and no longer than 39 in (100 cm). Otherwise they count as an extra piece (piece system) or as extra weight (weight system). Guitars go in the hold, in a hard or soft case. A seat can be bought for a fragile instrument.
Pets
Only service dogs may travel in the cabin. Dogs and cats can be checked as baggage if you contact the airline at least 48 hours ahead; pet and kennel together may not exceed 32 kg (heavier goes as cargo) and the passenger accompanying the pet must be 12 or older. Snub-nosed breeds (pugs, bulldogs, boxers, shih tzus, Pekingese and others on the airline's list) are not accepted on any flight. Fees follow the excess baggage rules of the route.
Firearms
As checked baggage only. The old fee list (from 15 Oct 2021) shows PHP 1,000 for short firearms rising to PHP 1,200, and PHP 1,200 for long firearms.
Batteries
Lithium metal up to 2 g per battery, lithium ion up to 100 Wh; with approval up to two spare batteries of 101 to 160 Wh. Hoverboards, e-scooters, e-bikes, electric unicycles and similar are not carried at all. Flammable liquids are not carried.
Fragile or bulky items
(bicycles, media bags, instruments, paintings, tents, strollers, trophies) are accepted on a limited release tag.
Medical oxygen
Supplied by the airline only, with 72 hours notice.
Questions travellers ask us
How much cabin baggage can I take?
One cabin bag of 7 kg (56 x 36 x 23 cm) plus one personal item of 45 x 35 x 20 cm.
Do I get checked baggage free?
It depends on the fare. Supersaver has none on most routes, while Saver and above carry 10 to 35 kg domestically and 23 to 40 kg on international weight-system routes.
What is the most I can prepay?
50 kg per sector on domestic flights and on most weight-system international routes.
Is the free allowance for checked and cabin bags together?
No. Your free checked baggage (for example 25 kg, or 2 pieces of 23 kg) is separate from the 7 kg cabin bag and the personal item.
Is the allowance per bag or in total?
On weight-system routes (most of Asia and the Pacific, and domestic) it is a total weight across all your bags. On piece-system routes (Middle East, Japan, North America, Guam) it is two bags of up to 23 kg each in economy, or 32 kg each in business. A 40 kg allowance needs at least two bags, because no single bag may exceed 32 kg.
What does a third bag cost?
On piece-system routes a bag over your allowed number of pieces is charged per piece, for example USD 250 from the Philippines to the US and Canada at the airport, or the prepaid piece rate if you buy ahead (USD 200 for a 23 kg piece to the US and Canada). Prepay up to 4 hours before departure.
Can I carry a bag of 32 kg when my ticket says 20 kg?
Yes, up to 32 kg for one bag, but the weight above your allowance is charged at the excess rate or the prepaid rate.
What is the heaviest single bag?
32 kg (70 lb).
When is it cheapest to buy?
Before you fly, up to 4 hours before departure.
Baggage Allowance is an independent information site and is not part of Philippine Airlines.
