You have to take two check in bags as the weight of any one bag shall not be more than 32 kg.
I have a flight from Jeddah to Mombasa via Adis Ababa (2 bags economy ticket). My bags are in excess of 9 kgs (1 bag 4kg other bag 5kg up the normal 23kgs each) Can I rearrange them so as one to be 23kg and the other 32kg and what will be the cost of the extra 9kgs on one bag? And can I pay with the local currency card/cash?
It is good to rearrange and have only one check in bag which is overweight (but below 32 kg weight). It shall cost you about 70-100 USD.
You are allowed 2 bags of 23 kg each inc heck in baggage allowance for this flight number which flies from Kilimanjaro to Addis Ababa. Cabin allowance is of 7 kg.
I would also like to add an extra check-in bag. How much will I pay for this extra bag if it is less than 23kgs?
Thank you
There is an extra baggage charge for having weight above 23 kg in a check in bag. In your case, you have added 2 kgs extra in both bags, which doubles the amount of extra charge you will have to pay. We suggest that you keep 4 kg extra in one bag only and pay only for one overweight check in, 32 kg is the max limit of one check in bag that you can take. So, you can increase from 23 kg to 32 kg in a bag and take it but on payment of charges.
If you decide to take an additional bag, then you can take extra 23 kg in it.
Overweight charge (23 kg-32 kg) is $100.
Extra bag charge (up to 23 kg) is $250.
IF you are carrying it within the permitted baggage allowance limits by size, weight and number of check in bags allowed, then USD 250 is charged. If it is beyond the free baggage allowance, then USD 550 is charged.
Yes, these backpacks can be taken as cabin bags within prescribed weight and size limits.
You can take a max of 32 kg in one bag. So, if the allowance is 23 kg, then there is an excess of 8 kg per bag. This means that two check in bags of 32 kg will have to be taken, this will entail charge of GBP70 per bag which means a total of GBP 140
If weight of your check in bag is more than 23 kg, then there will be charges for it for each such bag. So, our suggestion is that you keep extra weight of 5 kg in one bag only because you will be charged for one bag only. If you divide extra bag weight over two bags then double charges will have to be paid. Overweight baggage charge for more than 23 kg but less than 32 kg in one bag is $100.
You have not mentioned route of travel and cabin class.
25 and 27 kg bags have 6 kg extra, not 5 kg. And, you can take it in a single bag as charge will be same. If you increase weight of both, then double charge will have to be paid.
2. Is jewelry allowed in the cabin baggage?
No two cabin bags are not allowed. You have to take precious items only in cabin or hand baggage, not in check-in.
$250 will be the charges for excess baggage of up to 23 kg. These will be converted to local currency as per current exchange rates.
Can you describe the route and legs of journey involving the cities of flight? You can check for the excess baggage at https://baggage-allowance.info/blog/ethiopian-airlines-excess-baggage-charges/
