I am travelling from London to Tokyo via shanghai with China eastern, I have been told that because the outbound flight and connecting flight fall on different calendar days (even though only a 2.5 hour layover between flights) it is not possible to check bags through with China eastern, is this a rule you have heard of?
If this is the case I intend to bring cabin baggage only, in order to remain airside. Please could you confirm if the hand baggage allowance is 10kg or 8kg, as China eastern website states only 8kg?
Many thanks
Hand baggage allowance is 8 kg. We believe you shall speak to airline senior staff about through check in of the baggage.
2). Can a laptop weight too count the weight too add to the give 23 kg?
Tkns
23 kg is only the check in baggage. Cabin bag and laptop not included in it.
Yes, you are right. It means 2 bags of 23 kg each. Do not increase the weight of any bag to more than 23 kg (even if total is 46 kg or less) because it will entail excess baggage charges.
It can be carried within free baggage allowance provided the weight and size limits are observed. If you want to take it in addition to check in baggage allowance and its size is 158 cm linear dimension, then extra piece is charged CNY 2000. If it is oversized, more than 158 cm but less than 203 cm linear dimensions (L+B+H), but weight is within free allowance, then CNY1000 is charged. However, if it being carried both as an extra baggage and oversized item, then CNY 3000 is chargeable.
I am a professional musician who will be travelling to Australia from Italy in October for concerts. I play an authentic 19th century guitar which is smaller than a standard classical guitar and completely irreplaceable (it dates from the 1870s).
In its current travel case it is 104cm in length, 42.5cm in width, and 12cm in depth.
What are the options for bringing it onboard with me as cabin luggage?
Thank you very much for your attention. I hope to hear from you soon.
Regards, Claire Angel Bonner
You can take it in cabin provided it fits the cabin baggage size. Otherwise, you can buy a seat for it. We do not suggest you take it in checkin baggage.
For example, I have a sporting item separately packed and another to carry souvenirs for locals there excluding my checked luggage and carry on bag. In total I would have 3 pieces for checked baggage below the 23kg limit in total. Is this allowed? Please reply ASAP.
Thank you!
The allowance is based on piece system. If you take more number of pieces, irrespective of the weight, there will be charges to every extra bag.
Does it mean I need to pay for my 1 piece of luggage 23kg allowance
Thank you
You have not mentioned the route of travel. If you are booked on Basic Economy, then you have to buy even a single bag of 23 kg check in. However, R fare class generally refers to business class, so for that you have free baggage allowance on China Eastern and do not have to pay for it.
I would suggest you first mention the route and tell us whether youhave booked business class of not.
Yes it can be carried in a separate quatz size transparent resealable bag.
You have to take the sum of dimensions L+B+H and then check whether this is allowed or not.
You have to add the three dimensions of the cabin and check in bag. Also, you have to mention which route you are flying along with cabin class of travel.
You can buy it online, at the airport counter during check in. When you decide to buy it online, it shall be done at least 6 hrs before flight departure time.

First question is: I have 2 checked luggage. I know I have 23kg allowance in both but say one case weighs 25kg and the other weighs 21kg, is that allowed as it’s still on the 46kg allowance, it’s just distributed differently between the 2 cases?
Second question: I have my carry on luggage as a small case but I am also allowed to take my handbag on, it will fit under the seat?
Thank you
I know I am entitled to 2x23 checked and 1 carry on at 8kg
1- Am I also allowed to take a handbag on, it would fit under the seat?
2- Is one checked baggage allowed to weigh more than 23kg if the other case is lighter. So the total weight for the 2 would still be within the 46kg threshold but one case has more of the weight in it?
Thank you
Yes, cabin baggage allowance is separate from check in baggage allowance.
If you want to carry check in bags free of cost, then both shall be within the permitted allowance limits of number, size and weight. So, both have to be within 23 kg.
If it is an extra piece which is being brought in addition to check in baggage allowance, then charges are CNY2000 provided its size is less than 158cm linear dimensions. if size is more, there is more to be paid.
???????????????????? ?????? CA8640?
Excess baggage weight charges for the domestic flights is calculated with a formula which uses published fare for direct one-way flights in economy class. The charge per kg is 1.5% of that published fare.
1. Will check in baggage send to Colombo directly or have to recheck in Kunming?
2. Can I purchase an extra bag and at what cost?
Whether throught check in is possible or not will be told by the airline. Normally, within the same country, through check in is provided, but for international travel, the baggage has to be collected, immigration and recheck in has to be done. CNY 1000 is the charge for an additional check in bag of up to 23 kg.
Yes, you can surely take that.
For domestic flights, the charge is 1.5% on published one-way direct economy ticket for an adult passenger. This is calculated on per kg basis, not on number of bags basis.
You will have to check this with the airline.
We do not think that the excess baggage rates will change as time of flight departure approaches nearer.
If you have booked through an agency, then their confirmation or reference number might be different from what airline issues. It will be good if you speak to the customer support service of the airline.
We do not think there is any special allowance for Qantas Gold Frequent Flyer members on China Eastern airlines as Qantas is a member of oneworld alliance whereas China Eastern is a member of the SkyTeam.
Normal baggage allowances depending on cabin class booked will apply.
Booking reference AN28IN8OV91OU4RS1954.
There is no check-in baggage allowance on the outward leg.
How can I fix this?
Thanks,
Ross
You can buy baggage online on the website of the airline or you can call the customer support of airline.
Yes, these items can be taken in check-in baggage in proper sealed packing.
Thanks
You will have to check this with the airline local office. This depends on many factors, including the period of stay at intermediate connection (Shanghai, in your case).
we needed for the long trip on the Cruise for 4 weeks .Thanks a lot
Baggage allowance for multi-city trips is best told when we know what all sectors of travel have been booked on single ticket and which are the airline operating the flights. So, we do need to details of itinerary and also which cabin class is being flown on each sector of travel.
Do provide complete details for us to help you.
The allowed luggage from Shanghai to SGN . Thanks
The same question was asked by Nancy as well. We are short of information here. Is it China Eastern being flown for all routes? Or, some other airline is also involved? Secondly, are flight tickets done separately and which ticket covers which segment of travel?
We can tell you in general that for all US/Canada routes, if flying in economy class, the check in baggage allowance is 2 bags of 23 kg each for every adult or child passenger.
For Shanghai to Saigon, the check in baggage allowance is 1 bag of 23 kg for each passenger in economy class travel and 2 bags of 23 kg each in Premium economy.
Due to complexity of your trip, we also suggest that you check with the local airline office.
