Carry-on baggage allowance

China Southern Airlines allows free carry-on or hand baggage in domestic and international flights depending upon the class of travel. While each bag has to be of up to 5 kgs weight and of sum of dimensions 115 cm for all classes of travel, the First class passengers are allowed to carry 2 such bags whereas the other classes of travel are allowed only 1 such pcs.

In case the hand luggage exceed the weight, quantity or dimension, it will be taken as a checked in baggage.

In case of carriage of lithium-ion batteries, it is their rating which determines how will these will carried. For batteries of less than 100 kWh, you are allowed to carry 2 such pcs in your carry baggage and does not have to be declared at the airport. For batteries of power 100-160 kWh, there is a need for prior declaration and approval before boarding. Batteries of rating more than 116 cms have to be transported as cargo.

Domestic Travel (within mainland China)

Premium First and First Class travellers can carry 40 kgs max weight with 158 cm linear dimensions.

Business Class allowed 30 kgs with 158 cms dimension of each bag.

Premium Economy and Economy are allowed 20 kgs of 158 cms total dimension of each bag.

Infants are allowed to carry 10 kg of 115 cms total dimension of a bag

International Travel

Checked baggage allowance on China Southern is dependent on sector of travel and cabin class of travel. For this purpose the international countries have been divided into 5 different zones.

Zone 1: Japan, Russia, America, Australia, New Zealand + Singapore to China (not China to Singapore)

Premium First Class and First Class passengers are allowed 3 pcs of 32 kgs each and maximum dimensions of each bag shall be 158 cms.

Business Class passengers are allowed 2 pcs of 32 kgs each with sum of dimensions 158 cms.

Premium Economy and Economy class travellers are allowed 2 pcs of 23 kgs each and total of 158 cms of dimensions.

Infants who are not occupying a seat are allowed 1 pcs of 10 kg and 115 cms dimensions. Infant not occupying seat are also allowed to bring one collapsible chair.

 

Zone 2: Central and West Asia (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Iran, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan)

Premium First and First Class passengers are allowed 3 bags of 32 kgs each with total dimension of each bag being 158 cms.

Business Class passengers are allowed 2 pcs of 32 kgs each with total of 158 cms.

Premium Economy and Economy class passengers are allowed 1 pcs of 32 kgs with 158 cms dimensions.

Infants allowed 1 pcs of 10 kg with 115 cms sum of dimensions.

 

Zone 3: Dubai

Premium First and First Class allowed 3 pcs of 32 kgs each with 158 cms dimensions.

Business class permitted 2 pcs of 32 kgs each with 158 cms dimensions

Premium Economy and Economy travelling on Pass Guangzhou are allowed 2 pcs of 23 kgs of 158 cms.

Premium Economy travelling on Pass Urumchi and Lanzhou are allowed 1 pcs of 32 kg with 158 cms dimension whereas Economy class travellers on same pass are allowed 1 pcs of 23kgs with 158 cms dimensions.

 

Zone 4: Nairobi

Luggage allowance remains same as that of Zone 1

 

Zone 5: Other destinations

Premium First and First Class passengers are allowed 3 pcs of 32 kg each and total dimensions of 158 cms

Business Class are permitted to carry 3 pcs of 23 kgs of total dimensions 158 cms

Premium Economy Class passengers can carry 2 pcs of 23 kg each with 158 cms

Economy class can carry 1 pcs of 23 kgs of 158 total dimension

 

Excess Luggage

Within Mainland China

For travelling on domestic flights within the mainland China, you are charged at per kg rate which is determined on the basis of 1.5% of full adult one-way economy class ticket price. This ticket price is the one which is applicable on day of billing. In case there is no direct flight fare being published, the fare of different segments are added and then the per kg rate is calculated.

International Travel

For international flights, the charges are determined on the basis of excess weight, number of pcs and size of luggage.

For travel between China and Japan, America, Australia, New Zealand, Russia and Dubai, the charges are as follows:

  1. If you are carrying more number of pcs than the permitted ones, then first exceeding baggage will be charged at 1000 CNY/pc and subsequent additional pcs will be charged at CNY 2000/pc.

  2. For overweight baggage, if more than 23 kg allowance and up to 32 kg, charges are 1000 CNY and for more than 32 kg and up to 45 kg(inclusive), charges are 3000 CNY

  3. Oversized luggage of more than 159 cm upto 300 cms is allowed 1000 CNY

For travel between China and Nairobi, excess baggage rates are as follows:

  1. Towards more number of pcs than allowed free, first additional piece will attract CNY 1000 per pc and the next exceeding ones are charged 2000 CNY per pc.

  2. Overweight allowance, above 23 kg and less than 32 kg, is permitted 2000 CNY.

  3. Oversized baggage of more than 158 cms and up to 300 cm is charged 1000 CNY.

For travel to other international destinations, the excess baggage charges are as follows:

  1. First exceeding pc 450 CNY per pc and subsequent ones are charged 1300 CNY/pc.

  2. More than 23 kg and up to 32 kgs , 1000 CNY is charged.

  3. More than 158 cm and up to 300 cm, 1000 CNY is excess charge.
